Science experiments to do at home

Timeline

An update from Ms Lombardo and the Science Faculty:

The Science Faculty is so proud of all the students at Port for continuing to strive for excellence while engaging in learning at home.

Year 7 are busy learning about cells and microscopes in their Living Things topic. Did you know that the first cells were observed in 1663 by an English scientist named Robert Hooke when he was looking at some cork under a very early microscope?

TIMELINE: Students created a timeline which included the key dates and events in the development of The Cell Theory.

CELL MODELS: Students were asked to create models with materials from home to demonstrate the structure and contents of plant and animal cells.

Thank you Ms Collins for sharing some student submissions:

Year 8 are looking at Earth’s resources in their topic Captain Planet.

Some students have even managed to model the water cycle at home. Yay for the water cycle – it gives us rainbows!

Year 9 are investigating electricity and how to design circuits that can switch on different lights at different times. Can you imagine if every switch in your house turned on every single light all at once? Thank goodness for Science!

Year 10 are speeding away with their Motion topic. Soon they will be able to calculate their average walking speed just by knowing how far they have walked and how long it took them. A big shout out to the world of Mathematics and Physics!
