AUTISM AWARENESS MONTH

On the 28th April, Port Hacking High School recognised April as World Autism Awareness Month in Australia. We came together in a special assembly to share understanding, knowledge and experiences of what autism is and how it affects people every day.

We were joined by author Jade Chapman, whose book ‘Understanding Oscar’ helps young people, and especially siblings of children with autism, navigate the pathway to empathy and acceptance.

It was wonderful to see students and staff all wear blue, which can symbolise a feeling of calm and acceptance in a world that can be very loud and challenging at times. Students and staff in Special Education were joined by SRC and VOICE members to enjoy a BBQ lunch and games on the oval and celebrate an amazing day!

Student speakers were Benji, Rory, Chris, Oskar, Finn and James who shared a little about themselves on assembly

THANK YOU TO HT SPECIAL ED MS GASSMAN, OUR VOICE COORDINATOR MS LOMBARDO, AND SRC COORDINATOR MS THOMPSON FOR COORDINATING A BRILLIANT DAY!
