VET

VET at Port Hacking High School allows students to work towards their HSC while gaining nationally recognised industry qualifications. These courses build practical, job-ready skills through hands-on learning and mandatory work placement, leading to pathways in employment, apprenticeships, further training and tertiary study.

Courses

Hospitality – Food & Beverage (Certificate II)
Students learn practical skills in food and beverage service, barista work and café operations. Key skills include customer service, teamwork, organisation and problem solving.
Pathways: food & beverage attendant, barista, café service staff, restaurant host, events & function roles.
Construction – Certificate II (Joinery Stream)

Students gain experience in building and joinery, safe tool use and industry procedures, developing skills in communication, risk management and problem solving. Delivered by the NSW Department of Education (RTO 90333), this course provides dual accreditation toward:

  • CPC20220 Certificate II in Construction Pathways or Statement of Attainment toward CPC20120 Certificate II in Construction

    Pathways:  carpentry, joinery, bricklaying, builder’s labouring and trade apprenticeships.

Entertainment Industry – Live Production & Technical Services
Students gain hands-on experience in staging, lighting, audio, vision and front-of-house operations, working toward a Statement of Attainment toward CUA30420 Certificate III in Live Production and Technical Services.
Pathways: assistant lighting or sound technician, stagehand, production crew, front-of-house roles.
Additional Opportunities
Students may also study VET courses externally through TAFE (TVET) or other providers. Some courses include an optional HSC exam and may count toward the ATAR, while others are designed solely for industry skills.
