HSIE 'Human Society in It's Environment'
Within the HSIE faculty, both history and geography are mandatory from Year 7 to Year 10. Students can further explore people, societies, and environments through elective subjects in stages 5 and 6. HSIE helps students develop skills to actively and responsibly engage as informed citizens today.
In stages 4 and 5, students learn specific historical and geographical concepts and skills. We also offer experiences beyond the classroom, including geography fieldwork at places like Taronga Zoo, Wattamolla, Calmsley City Farm, and Minnamurra. Historical site studies occur at Hyde Park Barracks, Kamay National Park, and the Sydney Jewish Museum. The faculty runs a biannual European study tour, visiting WW1 battlefields in Belgium and France and key Cold War sites in Germany.
