Inclusive Education

At Port Hacking High School, we are committed to creating an inclusive learning community where every student is supported to achieve personal excellence. We recognise and celebrate the unique strengths, abilities, and potential of all learners, ensuring that diversity is valued and inclusion is at the centre of everything we do.

Our specialised support programs include four autism support classes and two classes for students diagnosed with mild to moderate intellectual disability. These programs provide structured, individualised learning opportunities within a safe, respectful, and engaging environment. Highly trained teachers and support staff work collaboratively with families, therapists, and mainstream teachers to deliver programs that foster academic growth, communication skills, social development, and independence.

Through inclusive practices, flexible learning pathways, opportunities to join selected mainstream classes, and a strong sense of belonging, Port Hacking High School empowers every student to fully participate in school life, access appropriate supports, and transition confidently beyond the classroom.

Placement in Inclusive Education is through the Access Request process which is initiated by your child’s primary or current school and managed centrally by the NSW Department of Education.

How to enrol

Enrolment into our inclusive learning hub is different from other public schools. It involves a referral and placement process. If you believe our inclusive learning hub may be the right setting for your child, your local school is the first place to start. They will work with you to understand your child’s needs and help you explore the right support options available.

  1. Find your local school: you can use School Finder to locate your local public school.
  2. Discuss support pathways: talk to your local school about available support pathways for your child.

Enrolment is considered when:

For placement in the hub, your child's current school must submit an application called an access request. This is done in consultation with the family. A local placement panel then reviews the application and makes a recommendation.
